Winona Dorris

Chief Financial Officer

Winona Dorris is Potlikker Capital’s CFO, leading its finance and IT areas. She also provides consultancy and business skills training to farmers, ranchers, and fisheries. Winona has led organizations of all sizes in developing teams, selecting and implementing accounting systems, managing corporation compliance, and preparing taxes. She comes to agriculture through familial ties from her great uncle Ed Scott, who expanded the family farm in Mississippi from 300 acres to over 1,000 acres, creating and operating the first black-owned catfish farm in the US. The operation was successful until the Farm Service Agency blocked access to operating credit. Ed Scott lost his land but went on to be a successful plaintiff in the Pigford class action lawsuit against the USDA, and his family has since recovered most of their land. Through her family’s history, she understands the effect injustices have had on generations of people stripped of their livelihood. She has long career experience in finance and accounting as a CFO and COO. Winona holds a BA in Economics and Accounting, a Masters in Business Administration, and a Masters in Taxation and is licensed as an insurance agent and a tax preparer.
